Andrea Borst is the owner of Dixie Gypsy, a clothing and accessory boutique inside Re-Do Vendor Mall.  Andrea lived in Biloxi until she was twelve and then she moved to Texas. She grew up, married and had two sons in Texas but she always yearned for the Mississippi Gulf Coast where she had spent her early years and numerous vacations. Ten years ago, she and her husband decided it was time to bring the family to Biloxi and make it their forever home.  Many of you may know Andrea as the manager of your Mama’z House, a bar and grill on the Tchoutacabouffa River.    We recently caught up with Andrea and asked her about her love for this area.

Q: What inspired or led you to your current venture?
A: I started working at Hancock Fabrics in high school.  I loved helping the customers choose the fabrics for their projects.  One of my teachers was getting married and she came in to get some ideas for her wedding dress.  I ended up designing the dress – we are still friends today. In Texas, I had a business called Aunnie’s Tees and More making and selling custom shirts and accessories.  I have always had my hand in design.  After moving to Biloxi in 2009 I helped my mom open Your Mama’z House and until this year I have been spending all my time managing that business.  This year, when the Re-do Vendor Mall opened, I decided it was a chance to get back into the fashion business and sell good trendy clothing for a reasonable price.  The Re-do Vendor gives me the opportunity to sell my lines of clothing and accessories without being there full time.  They handle everything but the merchandising.  The business has been doing really well.
